IN
THE SIXTH CENTURY B.C, THERE WERE 62 NEW RELIGIOUS SECTS CAME INTO EXISTENCE IN
INDIA. IN THIS CONTEXT EXPLAIN THE CONCEPT,
PRINCIPLES, THREE RATNAS OF JAINISM.
In
the ending of later vedic period, 62 new religious sects were emerged in India
because of brahmin hegemony from1500B.C To 600BC.
One
of them was Jainism. Though the Jainism roots goes back to vedic period, the
real founder of Jainism was Vardhamana Mahaveera.( 24th theerthankara).
Parswanatha 23rd thirthankara, he was historical founder of Jainism, he started
"nightantha sect" it consists of 4 principles, Vardhamana Mahaveera
added 5th principal and made nigrantha sect into Jainism.
According to Jainism the entire world consists of two things
1) Soul ( eternal)
2) matter ( perishable).
Main motto of Jainism was to
satisfy the soul. There are 5 principles
- Satya ( truth)
- Ahimsa ( Non voilence)
- Asateya ( Non stealing)
- Aparigraha ( Non accumulation of wealth)
- Brahamcharya ( Celibacy).
Jainism have Three ratnas:
- Samayak jnana ( right knowledge)
- Samayak kriya ( right action)
- Samyak viswas ( right faith)
The important words associated
with Jainism
- Kaivalya (Moksha) : Ultimate state of knowledge.
- Jina : Conquering the senses( all 5 senses)
- Sallekhana vratha : To give maximum pain to body without taking food and water.
In the 3rd century B.C Jainism divided into two secs based on
ideological differences.
1)Swethambara sect(who wore white clothes)
2) Digambara sect(who discarded clothes).
